Is there a cure?

Posted in Health Science, Healthcare, health by finfactcs on the May 7, 2008

Hepatitis is a disease that is unfortunately not very well known. And to make matters worse it is more infectious that HIV/Aids. Many people are unaware of the risks, the symptoms and the treatments available. World Hepatitis Day on May 19th is campaigning to increase awareness of this
deadly disease.

So the big questions; is there a cure?

Well the answer to that is yes and no. Hepatitis B & C are the most common strains of the disease and over 1.5 million people die each year from the disease. Hepatitis B has a vaccination available and treatments that can cure and prevent the disease from spreading. Hepatitis C however, does not have a vaccine. There are readily available treatments in the form of anti-viral medicines that can treat the problem and eventually, over a long period of time Hepatitis C can be cleared with this treatment.
